21 amphibian and 15 reptile species live in Germany — many of them are endangered. A project about the fire salamander, grass snake and sand lizard.
This project is about how fascinating this hidden life is — and how important its preservation is for our biodiversity. As a reptile enthusiast, I have been drawn for years to damp forests, pond edges and sun-drenched nutrient-poor grasslands. Where others see only stones, I observe animals that do not want to be seen.
All images are created exclusively in nature, never in a terrarium. With patience, often lying prone in the mud — and with the aim of neither disturbing nor staging the animals.
