They were here long before we arrived. They live in deadwood, in the cover of night, hidden in moors and meadows — small, often overlooked creatures that have been part of our native nature for millennia.
Tiger beetles, hazel dormice, moor frogs, midwife toads, and stag beetles: This photography project is a journey to Bavaria's true native inhabitants. I accompany them through spring and summer, into damp forests and sun-drenched sandy areas, into tree hollows and under stones.
I document their daily lives — how the stag beetle emerges from the earth for the last time, how the moor frog turns blue during its mating call, how tiny hazel dormice climb through tangled branches, silent yet alert.

During the spawning season, the male moor frog turns a vibrant blue — for only a few days a year.
These are fragile worlds that we rarely notice — and often unintentionally destroy. Many of these species are now endangered or on the Red List. With this project, I want to tell their stories: stories of adaptation, survival, and beauty in small things.

"Native Inhabitants" is my photographic portrait of those species that make our home what it is — wild, vibrant, and full of wonder. They are the animals we pass by every day without ever seeing them.
