In winter, the Flaucher, a section of the Isar in Munich, is home to countless mute swans - and a great spot for nature photography in Munich. The swans like to use the coarse gravel beaches and the shallow waters of the Isar to rest. In winter, Munich is a few degrees warmer than its rural surroundings - and this attracts many animals to the city.
In addition to swans, greylag geese, bar-headed geese, mallards and goosanders can always be seen at the Flaucher. A large flock of black-headed gulls also circles above the winter walkers. The nearby Hellabrunn Zoo does the rest to attract them with its increased food supply.
However, there is a special provision for the swans: two pensioners have been coming to the Flaucher every winter afternoon between 4 and 5 pm for years to provide the swans with real concentrated feed: wheat, corn and oatmeal are on the menu. The birds already know their human feeders and wait with their necks raised until the food pours into the water.
For photographers, the Flaucher is a great opportunity to get very close to these white beauties, as they are not shy at all.
